TREND ESTIMATES
- In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered increased 3% to 2 million.
- In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered increased 3% to 3.1 million.
- In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of lambs slaughtered increased slightly to 4.7 million.

LIVESTOCK SLAUGHTERED TREND
CATTLE (EXCLUDING CALVES)
The trend estimate for the number of cattle slaughtered in June quarter 2006 rose by 3% to 2 million.
CALVES
The trend estimate for the number of calves slaughtered in June quarter 2006 remained steady at 208,000.
SHEEP AND LAMBS
In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of sheep slaughtered increased by 3% to 3.1 million. The number of lambs slaughtered increased slightly to 4.7 million.
PIGS
In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for the number of pigs slaughtered remained steady at 1.3 million.
MEAT PRODUCTION TREND
BEEF
In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for beef production rose by 2% to 529,000 tonnes.
MUTTON AND LAMB
In June quarter 2006, the trend estimate for mutton production increased by 3% to 63,000 tonnes. The trend estimate for lamb production increased by 2% to 97,000 tonnes.
TOTAL RED MEAT
The trend estimate for red meat production increased by 2% to 792,000 tonnes in June quarter 2006.
CHICKEN MEAT
The trend estimate for chicken meat production increased by 2% to 198,000 tonnes in June quarter 2006.
LIVESTOCK PRODUCTS TREND
WHOLE MILK INTAKE BY FACTORIES
The trend estimate for whole milk intake by factories in March quarter 2006 decreased slightly to 2.5 billion litres.
BROKERS AND DEALERS RECEIVALS OF TAXABLE WOOL
The trend estimate for wool receivals by brokers and dealers in June quarter 2006 rose by 3% to 128,000 tonnes.
LIVESTOCK EXPORTS ORIGINAL
EXPORTS OF LIVE SHEEP
Live sheep exports fell by 14% to 742,000 in June quarter 2006. Gross value fell by 11% for the quarter, down to $50.8 million. Unit value rose by 4% to $68.38.
EXPORTS OF LIVE CATTLE
In June quarter 2006, live cattle exports rose by 71% to 184,000. An 8% decrease in unit value (to $629.08) saw the gross value of live cattle exports rise by 58% to $115 million.
